In the early 1970s, Cafferty formed the Beaver Brown Band with a group of friends from East Providence. The band quickly became a local favorite, playing a mix of Cafferty’s original songs and cover tunes. They released their first album, ‘Ride Together’, in 1974.
The Beaver Brown Band enjoyed moderate success in the 1970s, but it was their appearance in the 1980 film Caddyshack that brought them to national attention. The band’s song “On the Dark Side” was featured in the film, and became a Top 40 hit. The band followed up with a string of successful albums in the 1980s, including ‘Tough All Over’ (1985) and ‘Eddie and the Cruisers’ (1987).
In the 1990s, Cafferty began working on solo projects, releasing the albums Any River (1995) and Tough Guys (1997). He also wrote and performed the song “Heart’s on Fire” for the film Rocky IV.
Cafferty continued to tour and perform with the Beaver Brown Band well into the 2000s. He has also released a number of solo albums, including ‘The Best of John Cafferty’ (2000) and ‘Back Home Again’ (2004).
