Liquid Gold was an English disco group, from Brackley in Northamptonshire. Their biggest success came in 1980 with ‘Dance Yourself Dizzy’, which peaked at number two on the UK chart.

Liquid Gold was formed by Ray Knott and Ellie Rae with the addition of Wally Rothe and Syd Twynham.

Ellie had had previous success with her sisters in the soul group “Ellie” scoring a notable single ‘Tip of My Tongue’. She also sang on Mud‘s single ‘Oh Boy’.

Liquid Gold’s first single, ‘Anyway You Do It’, was released in October 1978. It just missed the UK Top 40 (reaching #41) but resulted in their being transferred to Polo for their next release, My Baby’s Baby (1979). Although it failed to chart in the UK, a remixed version of the song was released by Parachute Records in the US and became a hit, reaching #5 on the US Club Play charts and #45 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The next single was Mr Groovy (1980), which also failed to chart; but it was quickly followed by ‘Dance Yourself Dizzy’ (1980), which became their biggest UK hit, peaking at #2 in the UK and #26 in the US Club Play charts.
