Lightning Seeds – an English alternative rock band from Liverpool, England, emerged in 1989. Ian Broudie, the former member of Big In Japan, took the lead as vocalist, guitarist, and producer. After performing with various bands and producing albums for budding artists, he introduced the name ‘Lightning Seeds’ alongside the hit song “Pure” that same year.

Initially focusing on production work, Broudie briefly set aside the Lightning Seeds. However, in 1992, he reignited the project with the release of the album ‘Sense.’ By 1994, he expanded the band by forming a touring group to perform live shows after releasing ‘Jollification.’ In 1996, their fame surged with British chart hits like “Three Lions,” which became a number one U.K. single commissioned for the 1996 UEFA European Football Championship, and “Ready or Not,” a Top 20 U.K. single.

Following a break from 1999 to 2006, the Lightning Seeds made a comeback with a greatest hits album. Then in December 2016, they joined Madness on a British pre-Christmas arena tour, further re-establishing their presence. In 2018, “Three Lions” once again climbed the UK Charts, rallying support for the England Football team during the FIFA World Cup competition.
