More About Leonard Cohen
In 1966, Judy Collins, a well-known folk singer, included two of Cohen’s songs, “Suzanne” and “Dress Rehearsal Rag,” on her album “In My Life.” A year later, Noel Harrison released his own pop version of “Suzanne.” That same year, Cohen unveiled his first album, “The Songs of Leonard Cohen,” which featured his rendition of “Suzanne” alongside popular tracks like “Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye” and “Master Song.”
Cohen is perhaps best known for his song “Hallelujah.” Although it wasn’t initially a hit for him, the song gained immense popularity through covers by other artists. In 2009, X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke‘s cover of “Hallelujah” soared to the coveted No. 1 spot on the official UK Chart.
In October 2016, at the age of 82, Cohen released his final album, “You Want It Darker,” nearly 50 years after his debut. The album debuted at the top of the charts in Canada, peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, and reached number four on the UK Albums Chart, selling 20,330 copies in its first week.
