Solomon Burke was an American rhythm & blues singer and songwriter. He was born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Burke began his singing career as a child, performing gospel music in his father’s church. He later transitioned to secular music and signed with the Atlantic Records label in the early 1960s. Burke’s powerful and emotive voice gained him popularity, and he became known as the “King of Rock ‘n’ Soul.”
