Shalamar Backing Tracks – A Night To Remember … Dancing In The Sheets

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music vocal group

formed in the late 1970s in Los Angeles, California. The group was originally a disco-oriented act, but they quickly transitioned into an R&B and soul sound. Shalamar was known for their smooth harmonies, catchy hooks, and energetic dance moves.

The group was formed by Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, who saw potential in three talented singers. Shalamar initially consisted of Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel, and Gary Mumford. However, Mumford left the group early on, and was replaced by Gerald Brown. Brown was later replaced by Howard Hewett, which became the classic lineup of Shalamar.

In the early 1980s, Shalamar achieved mainstream success with a string of hit singles. Their biggest hits include “The Second Time Around,” “A Night to Remember,” and “Dancing in the Sheets.” These songs showcased the group’s infectious energy and soulful vocals.

Shalamar’s success was not only limited to the music charts, but they also gained popularity for their innovative dance moves. Jeffrey Daniel, in particular, became known for his unique style, including the “backslide” move, which later inspired Michael Jackson’s famous moonwalk.

Despite their success, Shalamar faced internal conflicts and lineup changes throughout their career. Jody Watley left the group in 1983 to pursue a solo career, and was replaced by Delisa Davis. However, Davis left after just one album, and Watley was eventually replaced by Sydney Justin. The group disbanded in the late 1980s, but briefly reunited in the 1990s.

Shalamar’s influence can still be felt in contemporary R&B and soul music. Their catchy melodies and danceable beats continue to inspire artists and audiences to this day.
