Ritchie Valens Backing Tracks : DonnaLa BambaTell Laura I Love Her

Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Ritchie Valens, was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. A rock & roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicago rock movement, Valens’ recording career lasted eight months, as it abruptly ended when he died in a plane crash.

During this time, he had several hits, most notably “La Bamba”, which he had adapted from a Mexican folk song. Valens transformed the song into one with a rock rhythm and beat, and it became a hit in 1958, making Valens a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement. The song has been covered many times, most notably by Los Lobos in 1987 when it hit the top of the charts in several charts.

On February 3, 1959, on what has become known as “the Day the Music Died”, Valens died in a plane crash in Iowa, an accident that also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Buddy Holly and J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, as well as pilot Roger Peterson. Valens was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

DonnaLa BambaTell Laura I Love Her

Lyrics

“Donna”

Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna
Oh, DonnaI had a girl
Donna was her name
Since she left me
I’ve never been the same’Cause I love my girl
Donna, where can you be?
Where can you be?Now that you’re gone
I’m left all alone
All by myself
To wander and roam’Cause I love my girl
Donna, where can you be?
Where can you be?Oh, darlin’, now that you’re gone
I don’t know what I’ll do
All the time and all my love
For you

I had a girl
Donna was her name
Since she left me
I’ve never been the same

‘Cause I love my girl
Donna, where can you be?
Where can you be?

Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna
Oh, Donna

Tell Laura I Love Her

Laura and Tommy were lovers
He wanted to give her everything
Flowers, presents and most of all, a wedding ring
He saw a sign for a stock car race
A thousand dollar prize it read
He couldn’t get Laura on the phone
So to her mother Tommy said

Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura I may be late
I’ve something to do, that cannot wait

He drove his car to the racing grounds
He was the youngest driver there
The crowed roared as they started the race
‘Round the track they drove at a deadly pace
No one knows what happened that day
How his car overturned in flames
But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck
With his dying breath, they heard him say

Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never die

And in the chapel where Laura prays
For Tommy who passed away
It was just for Laura he lived and died
Alone in the chapel she can hear him cry

Tell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never die
Tell Laura I love her
