Randy Crawford
 (born February 18, 1952, Macon, Georgia) is an American jazz and R&B singer. She has been more successful in Europe than in the United States. She has had multiple top five hits in the UK, including her 1980 number 2 hit, “One Day I’ll Fly Away”. Despite her American nationality, she won Best British Female Solo Artist in recognition of her popularity in the UK at the 1982 Brit Awards.

Crawford first sang gospel music at the St. James Baptist Church in Macon. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1968, and two years later, became a founding member of a band called “The Dues”. She then moved to the jazz club scene of New York City. She returned to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1971, and then moved to California and signed with Columbia Records.

Crawford’s self-titled debut album was released in 1976. It reached number four in the UK Albums Chart, driven by the single “Knock on Wood”, which reached number three in the UK Singles Chart. This was followed by the single “One Day I’ll Fly Away”, which was a UK number two and US number twenty-five hit. Her other big hit singles included “Street Life” (1979) and “Almaz” (1982).

Crawford’s album Raw Silk followed in 1979, and Secret Combination was released in 1981. Her albums include Rich and Poor, Nightline, Abstract Emotions, Everybody Needs a Little Rain and Through the Eyes of Love. The ballad “Rainy Night in Georgia” was included in her album Now We May Begin. She provided the vocals for jazz and R&B star Joe Sample’s 1985 hit single “Sample Me”.

In 2012, Crawford was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music. She was also inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2013.
