Pinkfong was modelled on the friendly fox in The Little Prince and gave his name to a streaming video channel that hosted children’s songs. In 2015, the song “Baby Shark,” became an international phenomenon and spawned a dance craze that was copied by celebrities like James Corden and Ellen DeGeneres. It turned Pinkfong into a huge global brand, and a range of spin-offs followed, including toys, books, live shows, an animated TV show launched in 2019, and a record label.
“Baby Shark” was streamed so many times that it even hit the U.K. singles chart in Christmas week. More digital albums and compilations followed — in multiple languages — which focused on a wide array of themes, from holidays and hygiene to dinosaurs. In 2021, the company issued the laid-back though no less infectious single “Jazzy Baby Shark.”
