MGMT is an American indie rock band formed in 2002.

The band was founded by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser.

MGMT opened for Of Montreal on tour in autumn 2007 as a five-piece touring band including Matthew Asti (bass), James Richardson (drums), and Hank Sullivant (guitar). In November 2007, they performed for the first time in Europe.

In 2009, the Justice remix of “Electric Feel” won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. The group was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and “Kids” was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2010.

Their 2010 album ‘Congratulations’ debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard chart and the band toured much of the year, while also appearing on TV and playing many festivals. ‘MGMT’ arrived in 2013 and broke the Top 20 of the Billboard album chart. After the band finished touring to promote the album, they decided to take a break from making music together. After a year of inactivity, they got back in the studio but it wasn’t until 2018 that ‘Little Dark Age’ was released. It debuted at number 35 on the Billboard 200 and hit number two on the Top Rock Albums chart.
