Manfred Mann were an English rock band of the 1960s, named after keyboardist, Manfred Mann. The group had two different lead vocalists during their success, Paul Jones and Mike d’Abo.

The band were regularly in the charts in the 1960s. Three of the band’s most successful singles, “Do Wah Diddy Diddy”, “Pretty Flamingo” and “Mighty Quinn”, topped the UK Singles Chart.
South African-born keyboardist Manfred Mann was aspiring jazz player who performed at dances and local coffee bars as a teenager. He studied classical music at University. He moved to England in 1961, making his living as a jazz pianist and teacher, and writing articles. By 1963 Manfred had gathered a band together and they successfully auditioned for EMI. In 1969 the group split but Manfred immediately formed a new band ‘Manfred Mann Chapter Three’, an experimental jazz rock band. They disbanded after 2 albums, but Mann formed a another new outfit in 1971, ‘Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’. Their well-known hits include “Blinded by the Light” and “Runner”.
