Growing up in a very conservative family, Perry faced significant restrictions. Her parents, both pastors, refused to let her listen to any rock or popular music. Nevertheless, she eventually found her passion for music. At around the age of nine, she began taking singing lessons and, by thirteen, she had learned to play the guitar. During this period, she started rebelling against her strict upbringing by piercing her own nose. Consequently, she developed a keen interest in pursuing a career in music.
To further her ambitions, Perry embarked on several trips to Nashville with her mother. There, she recorded a gospel album, “Katy Hudson,” which was released in 2001. Although the album did not achieve commercial success, it marked the beginning of her musical journey.
Transitioning to a new chapter, Perry signed with Capitol Records in 2007. This pivotal moment led to her rise to fame with the release of her single “I Kissed a Girl.” Her subsequent album, “Teenage Dream,” produced five number-one hits: “California Gurls,” “Firework,” “ET,” and “Last Friday Night (TGIF).” Following this success, her album “Prism” continued to captivate audiences with hits such as “Dark Horse” and “Roar.”
Throughout her career up until 2018, she became one of the best-selling music artists of all time, selling more than 18 million albums and 125 million singles globally. In that same year, Perry joined the reality singing competition “American Idol.” Through her insights and entertainment value, she has remained a prominent figure on the show, contributing significantly to its success.
In 2020, Perry released her sixth studio album, “Smile.” This album marked a return to her pop roots and explored themes of resilience, self-discovery, and joy. The production involved collaborations with various producers and songwriters, including Zedd, Charlie Puth, Johan Carlsson, and Sasha Sloan. Together, they helped shape the diverse sound of the album, further cementing Katy Perry’s legacy in the music industry.
