Karl Jenkins Backing Tracks – Adiemus
Karl Jenkins (Sir) CBE (born 17 February 1944) is a Welsh multi-instrumentalist and composer. His best known works include the song “Adiemus” and the Adiemus album series; Palladio; The Armed Man; and his Requiem.

Jenkins was educated in music at Cardiff University and the Royal Academy of Music.
In 1972 he joined the jazz-rock band Soft Machine and became the group’s lead songwriter in 1974. He continued to work with the band until 1984. Karl has spent time in the recording studio with Elton John, George Harrison & Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Jenkins has composed music for advertisement campaigns and has received many honours, including: OBE 2005, CBE 2010, two BAFTA Cymru awards. The Hopkins Medal (St. David’s Society of the State of New York), Cymru For the World, and he has been personally decorated by the Presidents of Hungary and Kosovo. He received a knighthood in The Queen’s 2015 Birthday Honours List.
“Adiemus” was written in 1994 by Karl Jenkins and premiered in a 1994 Delta Air Lines television advertisement. The song was also used in some Delta in-flight videos. The London Philharmonic Orchestra has also performed the piece.
The song, written in D minor, is a mix of African-tribal and Celtic-style melodies.
