Wilson began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager. After graduating from high school, he attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he studied songwriting. Wilson’s musical influences include John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and Steven Curtis Chapman.

Josh Wilson was the son of a preacher, and not only was he exposed to hymns and classical music while growing up, but he also absorbed secular pop, rock, and folk, all of which he mixes into his contemporary-sounding and deeply spiritual brand of Christian pop. His popular musical influences are said to include John Mayer and Jason Mraz.

After college, Wilson moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in music. He released his self-titled debut album in 2006, and it peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Christian Albums chart. The album’s first single, “Savior, Please”, reached No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart.

As a multi-instrumentalist and live-looping enthusiast, he’s been known to play and record as many as 20 instruments on stage at any given time.
