Johnny Hates Jazz was an English pop group formed in 1986. The band originally consisted of lead singer Clark Datchler, guitarist Mike Nocito and Calvin Hayes who played keyboard and drums.

The group achieved success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with several hit singles, including “Shattered Dreams“, which peaked at No. 2 in the UK in 1987, and “Turn Back the Clock“, which peaked at No. 1 in 1988.

The group was formed in 1986 by Datchler, who had previously written songs for artists such as Wham! and George Michael, and Nocito, who had been a member of the band Matt Bianco. The two had met while working on a project for singer Hazel O’Connor.

The group’s debut album, ‘Turn Back the Clock’, was released in 1988 and was a commercial success, reaching No. 1 in the UK and No. 3 in the US. The album’s second single, “Shattered Dreams“, was their biggest hit, reaching No. 2 in the UK and No. 5 in the US.

The group’s follow-up album, ‘Hard to Say I’m Sorry’, was released in 1991 and was less successful than its predecessor, although the lead single, “I Don’t Want to Be a Hero“, reached No. 6 in the UK. The group disbanded in 1992, but reunited in 2009 for a series of live shows.
