John Rowles Backing Tracks – If I Only Had Time
John Rowles OBE (born 26 March 1947) is a New Zealand singer. He was most popular between the late 1960s and early 1980s, and he was best known in New Zealand for his song, “If I Only Had Time”.
Rowles was born in Kohimarama, Auckland, New Zealand, the youngest of six children. He began his singing career in 1964, fronting a band called the Valiants. The Valiants had a hit in New Zealand with a cover of the Drifters‘ “Save the Last Dance for Me“.
In 1968, Rowles moved to Australia, where he was discovered by impresario Bill Hayden. Hayden took Rowles to Sydney, where he recorded his debut single, “If I Only Had Time“. The song was a hit in Australia and New Zealand, reaching number one in both countries.

In 1970, Rowles represented Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest, singing “One Day” (written by Peter Allen and Jeff St. John). He finished in fourth place.
Rowles continued to have hits in Australia and New Zealand throughout the 1970s. His 1974 song “Tania” was a number one hit in New Zealand.
John Rowles has released more than 20 albums and has been awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit.
