John Parr Backing Tracks – St Elmo’s Fire

John Parr (born 18 November 1952) is an English musician, songwriter and producer, best known for his 1984 US number one single “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)“.

Parr began his career as a session guitarist, playing on a number of hit singles in the 1970s, including “Blockbuster” by Sweet and “I’m Mandy, Fly Me” by 10cc. He released his debut solo album, ‘Moving Targets’, in 1982, and scored his first major success with the single “Naughty Naughty“, which reached the top 40 in the UK.

Parr’s biggest success came with his 1984 single “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)“, which was used as the theme song for the film of the same name. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, The record peaked at #6 in the United Kingdom and became a #1 hit for him around the world, and provided many awards and a Grammy nomination.

Parr has released nine studio albums, and has collaborated with a number of artists, including Bob Dylan, Elton John, Cher, and Meat Loaf. He has also composed music for films, including The Running Man and The Expendables 3.
