Jim Reeves was initially an extremely successful baseball player until a back injury forced an end to his athletic career.

In the 1940’s he worked as a radio presenter and often sang live between broadcasting songs which brought him to the attention of some recording companies, but it wasn’t until the early 1960’s that he really came to fame. His song “He’ll Have To Go” (written by Joe Allison) earned him success on the Country and Popular Music charts in the United States and gained him popularity world wide.
