Until his death in 2011, early member Rob Grill and a newer line-up of the Grass Roots continued to play many live performances each year.
In 1982, they set a world record for the largest audience ever played to by a rock band, at an Independence Day concert where they performed to over half a million people.
They concentrated on the “60s nostalgia” circuit, appearing alongside fellow 1960s groups including The Turtles, The Monkees, Gary Puckett, and Herman’s Hermits.
By 2012, the group featured no original band members, with a line-up personally chosen by Grill carrying on the legacy of the group with nationwide live performances.
In 2016 they were inducted into the American Pop Music Hall of Fame
