Gordon Lightfoot Backing Tracks – If You Could Read My Mind … Sundown … Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Gordon Lightfoot was a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music during the 1960s and 1970s.
Lightfoot’s albums from this time were well received abroad, but did not produce any hit singles. Outside of Canada, he remained better known as a songwriter than as a performer.
His success as a live performer continued to grow throughout the late 1960s. He embarked on his first Canadian national tour in 1967, and also performed in New York City. Between 1967 and 1974, Lightfoot toured Europe and was well-received on two tours of Australia. He earned five Grammy nominations and 17 Juno Awards in his native Canada, and was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

If You Could Read My Mind … Sundown … Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Lyrics
If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old-time movie
‘Bout a ghost from a wishin’ well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I’m a ghost that you can’t see
If I could read your mind, love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind the drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won’t read that book again
Because the ending’s just too hard to take ……
