Cold Chisel are an Australian rock band that formed in Adelaide, Australia. They had chart success in the 70s, 80s and 90s, and again more recently since reforming in 2011, with nine albums making the Australian top ten. Cold Chisel’s mainstream popularity is restricted to Australia, with their songs and musicianship exemplifying “pub rock” and highlighting working class life in their home country.

Cold Chisel gained popularity in Australia in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their first studio album, Cold Chisel (1978), was produced by former Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover, and spawned the singles “Khe Sanh” and “You Got Nothing I Want”. Their second studio album, Breakfast at Sweethearts (1979), was a huge commercial success, reaching number one on the Australian charts. The band’s third album, East (1980), was also a major success and produced the hits “Cheap Wine” and “Saturday Night”.
Cold Chisel remain one of the most successful rock bands in Australia and their music has been recognised with numerous awards and accolades, including three ARIA Hall of Fame Awards in 1993, 1997 and 2018.
