Bobby Vinton (Stanley Robert Vinton, Jr. (born April 16, 1935)) is an American singer and songwriter. In pop music circles, he became known as “The Polish Prince”, as his music pays tribute to his Polish heritage. Known for his angelic vocals in love songs, his most popular song, “Blue Velvet” reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963, and made No.2 in the UK in 1990.

Vinton’s first national hit, “Roses Are Red (My Love)”, was released in 1962. It went to number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It was the first of six number-one hits for Vinton. His other top 10 hits from the 1960s included “Blue on Blue” (1963), “Mr. Lonely” (1964), “There! I’ve Said It Again” (1964), and “My Heart Belongs to Only You” (1965).
Vinton’s most popular and enduring hit was “Blue Velvet” (1963). It reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed for 16 weeks. It also won a Grammy Award in 1963 for Best Rock and Roll Recording and a Music Operators of America (MOA), now called Radio & Records, award for Song of the Year.
Vinton continued to tour and record into the 2000s. He was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1977 and inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame in 2007. Vinton passed away on April 24, 2018.
