William Conti (born April 13, 1942) is an American composer and conductor, best known for his film scores, including ‘Rocky’ (and many of its sequels). The soundtrack album went platinum, and the main theme, “Gonna Fly Now,” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of July 2, 1977. An Oscar nomination for best song followed for Bill and lyricists Carol Connors and Ayn Robbins.
He wrote the scores for the film franchise ‘The Karate Kid’ and the title song for the James Bond film ‘For Your Eyes Only’.
For television he wrote for the series Dynasty (and its sequel The Colbys), and The Right Stuff, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Score.

Born in the USA, in 1942, Conti learned piano as a child and later took up the bassoon. He performed with his university symphony orchestra and spent his evenings playing jazz in area clubs.
Conti subsequently earned a master’s degree before relocating to Italy in 1967.
He first broke into the film industry there, composing and arranging music for productions including Juliette de Sade and A Candidate for a Killing (Un Sudario a la Medida), both released in 1960.
He received nominations in the Best Original Song category for “Gonna Fly Now” from Rocky and for the James Bond title song “For Your Eyes Only” (performed by Sheena Easton).
