Jethro Tull are a British rock band formed in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1967. Initially playing blues rock, the band later developed its sound to incorporate elements of hard and folk rock to forge a progressive rock signature.
The band is led by vocalist/flautist/guitarist Ian Anderson, and has featured a revolving door of band members through the years including significant instrumentalists such as long-time guitarist Martin Barre, keyboardist John Evan, drummers Clive Bunker, Barriemore Barlow, and Doane Perry, and bassists Glenn Cornick, Jeffrey Hammond, and Dave Pegg.
They released their first album, ‘This Was’, in 1968. The album was a commercial success, and the band followed it up with a number of successful albums throughout the 1970s, including ‘Aqualung’ (1971), ‘Thick as a Brick’ (1972), and ‘A Passion Play’ (1973).
The band’s popularity began to decline in the 1980s, but they experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 1990s and 2000s with the release of several successful albums.
The band has sold over 60 million albums worldwide and has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
