Frankie Vaughan was an English singer of easy listening and traditional pop music, who recorded more than 80 singles in his lifetime. At the age of 14 he won a scholarship to the Lancaster College of Art and began singing with a dance band.
At the start of his long career in entertainment he performed in theatres in a variety of song and dance acts and he sang for a while with the Nat Temple Band before signing a solo contract with Philips Records.

“Give Me the Moonlight” was his signature song but it wasn’t until 1956 the he hit the big time with his version of “Green Door” hitting no.2 and the follow up “The Garden Of Eden” in January 1957 became his first no.1. 1957.
Vaughan was awarded an OBE in 1965, a CBE in 1996, and had been a Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire since 1993. He was an Honorary Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University. He also received the Variety Club of Great Britain Award for “Showbusiness Personality of the Year” in 1957. He continued performing, mainly in theatre work until 1985.
