Clifford T Ward Backing Tracks – Gaye … Home Thoughts From Abroad … Scullery
Clifford Thomas Ward (10 February 1944 – 18 December 2001) was an English singer-songwriter and musician. He is widely considered to be one of the most important and influential figures in British folk music, writing and performing a number of popular songs in the 1970s and 1980s.
His 1973 album, Home Thoughts, remains his best known recording, and he had hit singles with songs such as “Gaye” and “Scullery”. His reluctance to tour in support of recorded work may have scuppered Ward’s chances of more substantial mainstream success.

After finishing school he formed a beat band named Cliff Ward and the Cruisers. In the mid-1960s and after several member changes, the group was renamed several times and ended up as Raynor’s Secrets and as Simon’s Secrets. They went on to tour around Britain and France, achieving moderate success. The group disbanded in 1967 but Clifford continued writing and recording in his spare time.
In 1972 his first solo album was released and the single “Gaye”went on to sell over a million copies worldwide and reach number 8 in the UK Singles Chart in July 1973.
Ward’s second album Home Thoughts achieved healthy sales and reached number 40 in the UK Albums Chart.
In January 1974, Ward entered the UK singles chart again at number 37 with “Scullery”, a track from his third album Mantle Pieces.
