The Blues Brothers are an American blues and soul revivalist band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Belushi and Aykroyd took on the characters of lead vocalist “Joliet” Jake Blues and harmonica player/vocalist Elwood Blues, and fronted the band, which was composed of well-known and respected musicians.

The band released an album, “Briefcase Full of Blues”, in 1978, and had a Hollywood film, “The Blues Brothers”, created around its characters in 1980.

The film is celebrated for its phenomenal soundtrack, showcasing a plethora of legendary musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and James Brown. It features an array of rhythm and blues, soul, and rock and roll hits. The musical performances are seamlessly integrated into the narrative, enriching the story and making it unique compared to other comedies of its time.

Eighteen years later, the sequel “Blues Brothers 2000” was released, again directed by John Landis. In this instalment, Elwood Blues emerges from prison to find a world that has drastically changed. With Jake gone and their mentor Curtis also passed away, Elwood sets out to put the band back together once again. The mission this time is to save an orphanage and participate in a battle of the bands competition.
