New York Dolls were an American hard rock group formed in 1971. All of the members of the New York Dolls had played in New York bands before the they formed and, although their original line-up fell apart quickly, the band’s first two albums became among the most popular cult records in rock. On stage, they wore an androgynous wardrobe, including high heels and eccentric hats.

Despite several changes in manager, The New York Dolls never really took off on a commercial basis but did gain a cult following and are said to have influenced such bands as The Sex Pistols.
They continued recording and performing at festivals well into the 2000’s.
