Cyndi Lauper is an American singer, songwriter, actress and LGBT rights activist. Her career has spanned over 40 years. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, “Time After Time”, “She Bop”, and “All Through the Night”—and earned Lauper the Best New Artist award at the 27th Grammy Awards in 1985. Her success continued with the soundtrack for the motion picture The Goonies and her second record True Colors (1986). This album included the number one single “True Colors” and “Change of Heart”, which peaked at number three.

Cyndi Lauper is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and LGBT rights activist who rose to fame in the early 1980s. She first gained fame as the lead singer of the pop band, Cyndi Lauper and the Blue Angel, scoring numerous hits including “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time” and “True Colors,” for which she won a Grammy Award in 1986.

Released in 1983, her debut solo album, ‘She’s So Unusual’, made her the first female artist to have four top 5 singles from one album. Two years later, she released her second album, ‘True Colors’, which featured a mix of pop, blues, and rock. The album was extremely successful, cementing her status as a Grammy Award-winning artist.

Lauper has released 11 studio albums throughout her career, with the most recent being Detour (2016). Throughout the years, she has won multiple awards including a Tony Award for her work on Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” in 2013.

In 2014, Lauper received a Kennedy Center Honor for her contributions in the music industry. In 2016, she became the second female honouree of the MTV Video Music Awards lifetime achievement award.

Lauper is also an active LGBT rights activist. She has released songs and music videos advocating for the acceptance of same-sex marriage and has been an outspoken advocate of the LGBT community. She has been involved in several projects and organisations to promote rights and visibility for the LGBT community.

Lauper is known for both her distinctive image featuring a variety of hair colours, eccentric clothing  and is particularly known for her powerful and distinctive four-octave singing range.

Lauper has been celebrated for her humanitarian work, particularly as an advocate for LGBT rights in the United States. Her charitable efforts were acknowledged in 2013 when the singer was invited as a special guest to attend U.S. President Barack Obama’s second-term inauguration.
