Synopsis

The musical premiered on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on March 23, 2000 and closed on September 4, 2004 after 30 previews and 1,852 performances. It is still performed today in international productions, regional theatres, colleges and high schools.

The story is that Egypt has enslaved Nubia and the prince, Radames, is engaged to the fashionable Amneris. However, when Aida, the princess of Nubia, comes to the palace as a slave, love turns everything upside down and leads everyone down paths they never could have imagined.

Elton John and Tim Rice released a concept album in 1999  that contains songs from, but predates the main production of, the 2000 musical. Elton John performs alongside many singing stars including Leann Rimes (Written In The Stars), Sting (Another Pyramid), Lenny Kravitz (Like Father Like Son).
