Eddy Grant (born 5 March 1948) is a Guyanese – British musician and was a founding member of The Equals, one of the United Kingdom’s first racially integrated pop groups. He is probably best known for his successful solo career which included the platinum single “Electric Avenue“.

Grant was born in Guyana, in 1948 to a middle-class family. As a child, he learned to play guitar and started writing his own music. He moved to London in 1966 and enrolled in a film and art school. In 1968, he formed The Equals, which quickly became one of the most popular reggae bands in the United Kingdom.

Later, Grant became a passionate political activist and campaigned for social justice. He also set up his own record label, Ice Records, which released several successful albums throughout the 1990s.

Today, Grant is still an active musician and campaigner for social justice. He continues to tour and has released several albums in the past decade. His music has influenced a number of major artists, including Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, and UB40. Grant’s career is an inspiration to many and he continues to be a major force in the world of reggae music.
