After touring in support of their debut album, Poullain left the band in 2005.

The band’s second studio album, One Way Ticket to Hell… and Back, was released in November that year. Justin Hawkins departed from the band and this, combined with the poor sales of the album, resulted in the band being dropped by their record label in 2006.

In 2011, the Darkness announced reunion shows, with original bassist Frankie Poullain, and their third album, Hot Cakes, was released in 2012. Original drummer Ed Graham then left the band

Between 2015 and 2019 they released further albums and were scheduled to complete a world tour in 2020. They had to abandon this due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021 saw the release of their seventh studio album Motorheart which they followed with an extensive UK tour through November and December 2021.
