Bruce Hornsby is an American singer-songwriter and pianist known for his unique blend of rock, jazz, and bluegrass music. He was born on November 23, 1954, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Hornsby began playing piano at a young age and was influenced by a wide range of musical genres, including classical, jazz, and folk. He studied music at the University of Miami where he formed his first band, Bobby Hi-Test and the Octane Kids. After graduation, he toured with various artists, including Sheena Easton and Ambrosia.

In 1984, Hornsby formed the band Bruce Hornsby and the Range, which achieved commercial success with their debut album, “The Way It Is” (1986). The album featured the hit single of the same name, which became a chart-topping hit and earned Hornsby a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Throughout his career, Hornsby has collaborated with numerous artists, including The Grateful Dead, Don Henley, Bob Dylan, and Bonnie Raitt, among others. He has released over a dozen albums, exploring different musical styles and experimenting with various genres.
